Conductor Henrik Jul Hansen was born in Denmark and trained in conducting at the Royal Danish Music Conservatory, The Royal Swedish Academy of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London, and has received many prestigious international awards. He currently conducts the Merced Symphony, The Sacramento Ballet Orchestra, his own Gold Country Orchestra in Sacramento, as well as events with the Camellia Symphony, the Mother Lode Festival Chorus, and the Orchestra of the Mother Lode Friends of Music.
In this country, he formed and conducted his own orchestra in New York, where he specialized in American music. At Carnegie Hall, he conducted Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite & other works for which he received rave reviews in the New York press.
"Everything he does, from the choice of program material to working out the rehearsal schedule, is geared to producing the highest possible performance of the music on the stage," says Joanna Browning, Symphony Association Board President of the Merced Symphony.
Mr. Hansen helped create the original music for Don Schwennesen's Noah's Ark and conducted the music at the last performances.
He recently conducted all of the performances for the 50th Anniversary of the Sacramento Ballet Company's annual holiday classic, "The Nutcracker."
